The war of the smartphones has really centered on the two best phones available in the market today, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4S pales in comparison against the Samsung Galaxy S3 in so many ways and it really does look like that iPhone now has to catch-up with the rumored iPhone 5.
There are plenty of rumors on the features of the iPhone 5 floating on the internet and Apple has been very tight-lipped on what the phone is really going to be. Will it be really better and advanced than the Galaxy S3? Nobody really knows at this point, but in order for iPhone to catch up with the S3, it has got to have some of these features at the very least.
Form Factor
The Galaxy S3 is definitely a slim phone and the general public has gotten into the mindset that slimmer is better simply because it’s sexier. If the iPhone 5 intends to portray an appealing image, it has got to be as slim as the Galaxy S3 or even slimmer. This definitely would not be impossible for Apple to accomplish, but the question is if the company has the same mindset of the general public.
Another thing about iPhones is that they believe that the metal case gives a more distinguished appeal to their units. This may have been true at some time, but now, somehow it doesn’t seem to have so much weight. Well, physical weight it does have because it is heavier than the plastic cases that Samsung use for their phones.
Processor
The iPhone 5 is rumored to have the A5X processor of the iPad 3. If it does, it should be enough to match the 1.5 Ghz dual core processor of the Samsung Galaxy S3. The iPhone 5 will also need at least 2GB RAM to match the hardware of the S3.
With all the advanced apps that iPhone will need to have on the iPhone 5, it will definitely need the best available processor or else the unit would only end up as being slow and that would not be good for iPhone.
Storage
One thing that iPhone does not have is external storage. These units do not come with a microSD slot. Unless the iPhone 5 intends to have an extraordinary amount of internal storage, something greater than 64GB, it will need a microSD slot to match the S3.
Why? It’s amazing at the amount of data most people love to keep on their smartphones. There are music files, photographs, and most of all videos. Add these to the numerous apps that people just love to download and play with on their phones, 64GB just won’t be enough.
Display
There are rumors that the iPhone 5 will have a display of at least 4”. If this is true, then the unit will make a step towards matching the size of the S3 Super AMOLED display.
There are some people who believe that the 4.8” display of the S3 is a bit too big. However, a 1280×720 resolution is definitely nice to look at. The iPhone 5 will definitely need to match the resolution of the S3.
Cameras
The one thing about smart phones that people have really started to look for is the quality of the cameras. The iPhone 4S and the Galaxy S3 both have 8 mega pixel rear facing cameras. The iPhone 5 will definitely need the same 8 mega pixel camera, and it would be good if it will come out with something even better.
It would really be a good idea if the iPhone 5 has a bit more punch in its camera than the S3 because a lot of people make their buying decisions based on the camera quality. It would be wise if Apple does not overlook this when they release the iPhone 5. Somehow, smartphones need a great camera in order to be considered great.
In order to really make its mark in the smart phone universe, the iPhone 5 will definitely need tons of new features that will not only match but exceed those of the Samsung Galaxy S3. iPhone is losing the battle against the Samsung Galaxy S3 and unless the iPhone 5 has better features, the iPhone will definitely not take the lead.
If the iPhone 5’s features only match but do not exceed those of the S3, then it will not be able to convince Android lovers to switch over. Yes, the iPhone has a bunch of followers, but then quite a number of these followers have learned to love the Galaxy S3 as well.
Will the iPhone 5 manage to convince the world that it will be the best smartphone? It will definitely be the latest when it comes out, but will it be the best? Well, the wait won’t be much longer.
