When the iPod Touch 4th Generation was finally released it was somewhat of a disappointment. People, especially Apple fans, expected a lot but the device didn’t actually meet these expectations.
Now that the iPod Touch 5th Generation is about to be released, fans are again expecting a lot. It wouldn’t be right to set the expectations too high, but there are some things that I would like to see on the new iPod Touch 5th Generation when it is released.
There are plenty of rumors floating around the web that the new iPod Touch 5th Generation device will have a 4” screen. I would love to see a screen this large, but the device should also improve its battery life. Larger screens are great but then they also mean that more power is drained from the battery.
If the iPod Touch 5G comes out with an improved battery life, then a large 4” screen would be perfect for watching movies, reading ebooks and playing games.
Will the new iPod Touch come with the A5 processor like the new iPhones? This is something that would greatly improve the unit.
The 4th Generation wasn’t much of an improvement or nothing spectacular came out, so I would love to see Apple make up for its lack of improvement on the 4th Gen by adding a better processor on the 5th Gen.
There are also rumors that the iPod Touch 5th Generation will also have iOS 6. This would be a great move by Apple. It would also be great if Apple also included SIRI in the new iPod Touch.
The current iPod Touch is actually slimmer and lighter than the iPhone. The iPod Touch 5th Generation should be as slim as the current model even with a larger screen.
The larger screen will add a little bit of weight, but as long as it weighs around or even still under the 140g weight of the iPhone than it wouldn’t be difficult to carry around the iPod all the time.
One of the faults of the current iPod is that the back cover can easily scratch. Using a protector sort of destroys the overall appearance and feel of the unit. Apple should change the back cover material to something that won’t easily scratch.
The camera on the iPod Touch could use an upgrade as well. 8 mega pixel cameras are already common in other devices and it wouldn’t hurt if the iPod Touch 5G could be fitted with a similar quality camera or even better. An LED flash would also come in handy.
There are photo editing apps already available for the iPod Touch and an improvement on the quality of the camera installed on the device would make these apps really be worthwhile. A 4” screen with a good quality camera would make the iPod Touch an ideal device to use on trips, not only for media playing, but also for capturing special moments and events on the road.
Apple isn’t known for including extended memory slots on their devices. However, if they could include a MicroSD slot then users would not have to worry too much about using up the small internal memory that these devices usually come with. 8GB is definitely not enough and 64GB would also not be a whole lot especially with an improved camera and a large screen for watching movies. The apps available for the iPod Touch are already quite heavy on memory requirements, so a MicroSD slot would definitely be useful.
That about sums it up for my wish list on the soon to be released iPod Touch 5G. If the rumors all turn out to be true then we would see a great improvement on the iPod. The expectations aren’t too much. Apple already has the technology and is using it in the iPhone. All the company needs to do is to incorporate it into the iPod, so these small improvements aren’t really asking too much from the company.
Apple failed drastically to come up with any improvements on the iPod Touch last year. The only thing that they were able to come up with was a change in the color of the iPods. Not that the new colors are bad, they’re actually quite nice and they provide a better appeal to the units.
However, fans are more interested in technological improvements and not just a facelift. Apple already has everything that they need to make some major improvements to the iPod Touch
