To many people, especially iPhone lovers, the iPhone is the best smartphone in the world. This may have been true at some point, but then Samsung, the Korean phone giant, decided that iPhone has held the market for too long and that they needed to come out with a phone that will take a big chunk of the market away from iPhone.
In order to do so, Samsung needed a phone that was packed with strong features that could beat the iPhone.
Did they accomplish this with the Samsung Galaxy S3?
The first thing that Samsung needed was a fast processor. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 1.5 Ghz dual core Snapdragon processor and this ended up to be 3.5 times faster in clock speed than the iPhone 4S processor. Samsung not only matched the processing speed of the 4S, it exceeded it exceptionally. This was accomplished even though the size of the Galaxy S3’s processor is slightly smaller than the processor of the iPhone 4S.
Form Factor
Samsung also managed to make the Galaxy S3 slimmer and lighter than the 4S even though the S3 is marginally bigger. The 4.8” Super AMOLED display definitely beats the 3.5” display of the 4S.
This makes watching videos, reading ebooks, and playing games a whole lot more enjoyable on the S3. The 1280×720 resolution of the S3 also beats the 960×640 resolution of the 4S.
Extended Memory
Another thing that Samsung did right on the Galaxy S3 was to include a microSD slot. The extended memory may seem a bit moot because of the 64GB internal storage that some models of the S3 have, but then extra storage means that the S3 has something extra to offer.
The extra storage was in a way a very good idea because the 8 mega pixel rear facing camera of the S3 is something that people really enjoy. If you’re someone who just loves to take photos of every single interesting that you pass by, then you could easily fill up 64GB.
Screen Display
People just love keeping photos on their smartphones. With the 4.8” display of the S3, the unit is almost the same size as a regular printed photo. It’s just like keeping a photo album with you all the time.
Powerful Battery
With all the features that Samsung packed into the Galaxy S3, it definitely needed a powerful battery. The S3’s battery holds 49% more power than that of the 4S. However, there is one thing that did not make the S3 look too good. The S3 heats up pretty fast and after only 5 minutes of use, you can feel the heat on the palm of your hands.
Connectivity
The Samsung definitely has a bunch of features that beats the iPhone 4S, but there are still features of the iPhone 4S that the S3 did not have. For one, the iPhone 4S has better connectivity than the S3. This is something that Samsung needs to pay more attention to.
Is the Samsung Galaxy S3 the new iPhone killer?
Well, with the power packed features of the S3, the unit definitely out did the iPhone 4S. However, you will need to keep in mind that the 4S is somewhat older than the S3. Apple is going to release the iPhone 5 and iPhone lovers definitely believe that the iPhone 5 will give the Galaxy S3 a challenge.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 may have out performed the iPhone in many ways, but considering that it is a much newer phone, it would be difficult to say just yet that this unit has killed the iPhone. Now, if the iPhone 5 turns out to be much better than the S3, this would mean that iPhone is still very much alive and still fighting for supremacy in the war of the smart phones.
